Basketball, Religion, and Penises

I went to my little brother's basketball game this weekend. Though he is not Jewish, he plays for a team at a Jewish Community Center. I love going to his games (especially since he is really good and the team kicks butt!), but whenever I walk in there and see all the Jewish families with their kids doing various activities being hosted in the center, all I can think is... I bet all these little boys have been cut. And it makes me sad. And angry and disappointed that anyone not only thinks its ok to impose their own religion on a child, but is totally cool with belonging to a religion that requires the amputation of children's body parts... And a celebration of said amputation.

It's a penis cutting party! BARF.

Some people who are against circumcision make an exception for "religious reasons". Well, I don't. Either it's wrong or it's not. Call me anti-Semite, whatever. I'm anti - cutting babies, whether that be in the name of health, hygiene, aesthetics, or mythical penis-obsessed sky daddies. I have the utmost respect for Jews who go against the grain and don't participate in this disgusting tradition. But what kind of parent can look at their newborn child and say "this thousands of years old book told me I have to cut off part of your penis, and I love this book more than I love you so I'm calling the mohel"???

In the words of the late great Christopher Hitchens:
My three delightful children are my only chance at a second life, or even an immortal one. And I'll tell you something; if I was told to sacrifice them to prove my devotion to God and admire the man who said, "yes, I'll GUT MY KID to show my love of God", I'd say no... fuck you.

Next time I go to the JCC for a basketball game, I will really be hoping that some of the parents there said "fuck you", too.

  1. Your religious rights end where another person's bodies begin. Even if that "other person" is your child. Maybe that's why I'm an atheist, I can't fathom sacrificing any part of my child for someone else.

  2. Seriously? You go to a place with Jews and all you can think of is an event that happened to 50% of them on one day when they were babies? That's all the word "Jewish" conjures up in your mind?

Antisemitic by reason of insanity, more like...

    1. Um, I could be thinking of the 50% females that have not been offered up as sacrifice because they are not MEN but lesser beings not worthy, and yet are "perfect". Without THE experience, they KNOW nothing.

Jewish pundits say circumcision is the cornerstone of their religion. I guess then Judaism would fall apart if it weren't for that "one day"! It must be what Jews all think about especially in a group right? But wait Jewish pundits also say "now we can get on to more important things". Both referencing SFMGMbill.

You think 50% are cut. Well that's not true. I suggest talking to more Jews.
Also look at the number not cut in restrictive USSR. Now compare that to the number of Jewish men in the US. (wikipedia) It's a surprising ratio.

I think about all the boys that would be this gathering instead they are dead from circumcision. I see ghosts. If you open your eyes you might see them too.

Lastly, "anti-Semitic" is a tool used to shut people up, to stop discussion. It is also an untruthful misnomer. This word seeks to speak for ALL 5 Semitic tribes. Jews, the chosen ones, so think highly of themselves. When really they rank number 3 of 5 Semitic populations. However Anti-Judaic is exactly perfect in meaning.
"insanity" is when self glorification* is sought by parents and society by cutting into and out the flesh of male identity with the purpose of diminishing pleasure with the "yoke of burden" (Jewish). known for over 80 years see Rabbi Moses Maimonides on circumcision. and Leonard Glick Circumcision youtube Bonobo3D. *see Munchausen by Proxy in Dr. Richard Matteoli book Blood Ritual I: The Munchausen Complex.

  3. Yes Esther, one thing Jews make me think of is cutting babies. That's what they do, right?

And FYI, circumcision isn't just something that happens "one day when they are babies". It affects the child and the man he will become for the rest of his life, as well as any future partners he may have.

  4. "I bet all these kids are cut" is something I think about every time I go out. Whenever I'm at Walmart, whenever I go out to the park, whenever I go to Disneyland and I see a family with children, a woman with a stroller, a man with a boy on his shoulder, I can't help but think...

"Did your parents allow some man in a white coat to mutilate you too..."

Remember that in America, 80% of the men are circumcised. Every year, an estimated 1.3 million boys are circumcised, and only about 2-3% are Jewish boys circumcised at brissim.

This "I wonder if they're cut" thing shouldn't be limited to just when you see Jewish boys, but just anytime you're in the country called "America," so-called "land of the free" and "home of the brave."

But I can see how this increases when you see Jewish boys; with gentiles, there's really no requirement, and rates are falling (56% as per the CDC). But this jumps when you see Jewish families because well... It's part of their religion right?

Esther, what are we supposed to think when Jewish people defend circumcision as their "one redeeming mitzvot?" What are we supposed to think when rabbis say that "for even non-practicing Jews, circumcision counts for all 613 mitzvot?" So you can go out, eat pork, mix with men and women, not keep shabbat, etc., but as long as you're circumcised, you're A-OK? It makes it seem like circumcision's all what Judaism is all about. Like it's the one bedrock foundation.

It's not, and many Jewish intactivists have pointed out that Judaism comes from having a Jewish mother.

But why can't we come to this conclusion? Why does it make us anti-Semitic to think "Jewish = circumcised?"

Does it make me "anti-Hindu" to think Hindu = vegetarian? Or "anti-Muslim" to think Muslim = prays 5x a day? Or "anti-Santero" to think Santeria = killing chickens and crystal balls?

When I think "Jewish" I think "baby cutting."

Sorry if my own perception of events makes me "anti-Semitic."

But don't feel singled out. I also think the same thing of "American" and "Muslim," if that makes you feel any better.

    Cheers.

  5. Something I'd like to point out in this picture; it looks like the bris is being conducted by a WOMAN.

Not very kosher in the eyes of some Jews *I* know.

They say that traditions can and DO change, and here is living proof.

Interestingly enough, no one has suggested a similar genital cutting ritual for girls... (not that I would support it...)

It makes me cringe with anger every time I read an article about some woman mohel saying that this is some sort of step in "equality."

Really? You think you being able to cut boys is some kind of progress in Judaism? How about you start cutting girls to make things more "equal?" Or better yet stop cutting children altogether?

    Ass-backwards, if you asked me...

    I'm done.

  6. We are MEN. NOT billboards of your beliefs. Right circumcise the boy, circumcises the man. And now for something you really like (NOT) vote POLL "Oppose" https://www.popvox.com/bills/us/112/hr2400
Calif. passed bill AB768 its twin that promotes male genital mutilation as a god thing that can be done by anyone, with anything, with or without pain relief, on any son to age 18, with ONLY one parent's desire. This law makes any male circumcision "legal" therefor it is also to be used to stop any young man suing or any other lawsuits. All evidence that religions have taken control of our representatives. Religions heavily represented in industries: doctor / lawyer. AB 768 was rushed through becoming law in just one month with just a scant less than 2 minutes of individual public input of those that even knew about it. See youtube coverage of passing AB768.

  7. KOTFrank, remember, laws can be challenged. Remember Roe vs. Wade?

Don't take the passing of these theatrical laws to heart; it just means that now men have visible targets to attack.

Let these laws pass; when the time comes, men will step up to the plate.
